Hoi An

My Son Sunrise

We also visited Hoi An, near Danang. Beautiful old city (17th century buildings) and Cham ruins at My Son (4th to 13th century), both UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The highlights were definitely the lantern making class we took in town, and the sunrise tour of My Son.

Otherwise we found Hoi An a bit off-putting. There is a lot of money running through the town due to the 300 or so tailor shops that make clothing for Western and Asian tourists. Too much of our time in Hoi An was spent sucked into this money vaccuum. And, though we have some nice clothes to show for it, we didn't really find it a good way to experience the town.

Great shots from lantern making and My Son, and don't miss the embroidered water buffalo!
