Show the Caskets!

Last night Em and I went to protest the media coverage of the war and convention, specifically, but the Bush administration and corporate interest more generally. We took our signs. Em had a nice sign ala N.O.W. which said: Fight the Radical Right Mine was of the hasty, handmade variety, and read: Show the Caskets!

We took our signs down to 6th ave and marched on the respective headquarters of CNN, NBC, and Fox. Good times. The chanting wasn't particularly creative, but it was nice to scream "Shut up Fox!" in the middle of Manhattan with an angry mob and our many, many police officer friends. So many cops, in fact, that I'm pretty sure it would have been a bloodbath if someone had done something stupid...but, hey, that's freedom I guess...security check-points, and really armed cops all over the place...

Speaking of security check-points, last night was the second time (also during the big protest march on sunday) where cops would not let us walk down certain blocks. On Sunday, this made some sense. There was a huge crowd (the Village Voice estimated half a-million) and we were right at Madison Square Garden where, inside, Cheney was rehearsing his speech (do you think he paused to allow for the chanting of "flip-flop" during rehearsal?). Last night, however, there was very little pedestrian traffic, and cops would not let anyone walk south on one specific block of Park Ave, between 51st and 50th streets.

I think eggs are the weapon of the future. And not free range eggs, either. Just your standard factory farmed, genetically enhanced egg. They are easily concealed. They can be thrown fairly inconspicuously. And they produce a dramatic effect.
